Description

The Red Sparkle apple is an exceptionally cold hardy Canadian variety developed in Manitoba as a cross between the Trail and McIntosh apples. Released in 1990, it is specifically bred to withstand harsh prairie winters while maintaining high quality flavor and texture. Showy clusters of lightly scented white flowers with pink overtones emerge from pink buds in mid spring, typically between mid May and early June. Red Sparkle produces a medium sized fruit known for its crisp, juicy white flesh. It has a unique nutty or almond like flavor similar to a McIntosh. The apples are typically dark red or crimson over a yellow green base. It is considered an excellent "dessert apple" for fresh eating but is also versatile enough for cooking, baking into pies, and juicing. These apples can store for approximately 2 to 4 months in cold storage. Requires another compatable apple or crabapple tree variety nearby to produce fruit. For highest yield and best bloom, plant in full sun.
