Description
The Golden Spice pear is an exceptionally cold hardy fruit tree developed by the University of Minnesota and introduced in 1949. It is known for its ability to thrive in harsh northern climates, particularly the Canadian prairies. It produces small, oblong, golden yellow pears, from late August to mid September, often featuring a slight reddish blush. The fruit is known for a sweet, aromatic flavor with a crisp, firm texture. While its suitable for fresh eating once fully ripe, they are commonly recommended for canning, preserves, jams, and baking due to its firm flesh. Although it is sometimes listed as self pollinating, it is strongly recommended to have another compatible pear variety like Early Gold nearby to ensure a reliable fruit set. Plant in full sun for the best yield.
