Description
The Connell Red Apple is a large, hardy dessert apple known for its mild, sweet flavour and excellent storage capabilities. It produces large to very large round fruit with solid dark red skin, occasionally featuring small yellow dots. The taste is described as rich, mildly sweet, and aromatic, sometimes featuring hints of banana. The flesh is hard, dense, and fine grained, while still remaining crisp and juicy. Its firm texture makes it ideal for fresh eating or baking, where it holds its shape well in pies. Known as a "superb keeper," the Connell Red can be stored for 3 to 6 months if kept in a cool, dry place like a refrigerator or root cellar. Requires another compatable apple or crabapple tree variety nearby to produce fruit. For highest yield and best bloom, plant in full sun.
