Description
The Kerr Crabapple is a highly cold hardy hybrid developed in Manitoba in the 1950s, prized for its large, dark red, crisp fruit that tastes sweet-tart. It is a cross between the Dolgo crabapple and the Haralson apple, resulting in fruit that is larger than typical crabapples and edible straight from the tree. They are small, oblong fruit with dark purple red skin and yellowish flesh often stained with red. Some describe as firm, crisp, and juicy with a candy like flavour that mellows after the first frost. While it is considered partially self fertile, a pollinator such as chestnut crabapple will significantly help yeilds. For the best results, plant in full sun.
